Welcome to Fritterz Cycling/Meet the Crew - Nick

Blog one and a big welcome to Fritterz Cycling. While the project was launched in 2024 without much fanfare, the proof of concept exists enough to be able to build into 2025. With that, here’s a slight intro on me and what to expect going forward in 2025. You can also follow us on Instagram if reading isn't your thing

Fritterz Cycling is built on wanting to race and be competitive, but also as a recognition of the fun that can be found with drop bar bikes. It's great to push, to set new records and to see what you can really achieve, but is that better than a fresh donut and coffee on a stop during a ride with friends? Fritterz Cycling wants to encompass all of that

Racing

I'm an okay racer at best across the gravel scene within the Interior of British Columbia and dabbled a bit into Alberta as well. While last year was my first year of gravel racing, I had some promising results coming out of the Fernie and Cranbrook Gravel Grinds with some disappointments at the Cochrane Crusher have lit a fire under me to continue to grow and get faster. Next year I’m definitely looking to keep up the momentum, go to more races and continue the growth with good finishes and especially, good legs.

Luckily, I’m not alone. From Revelstoke, we have a couple of hitters in fellow Fritterz Cycling member Michael Read, known as Spud, and Dylan Lucey. These boys keep the stoke and competitive fire high within town. While I certainly have my targets for the season and will be building towards them, I’m hoping that the three of us can continue the momentum that we have built as a group, and continue to build and grow together.

I’m continuing to log the hours in on my trainer, longing for the endless seeming snow to let up and the roads to dry off a bit to get back out there. While indoor training is dull at best, I do relish the chance to make gains and look forward to getting rubber on road or dirt and see the improvement materialize. At least the skiing is getting good as well. Race calendar will follow up once it is finalized.

Community

I started Fritterz Cycling as not just a “club” that I could register as a team at races, but also as a way to jump start the Revelstoke road biking community. A quick look through Strava leaderboards will tell you that there is definitely some fast guys living here. Where I get to call home we’re blessed with winding roads to nowhere and Canada’s longest road climb. What we lack in variety we make up for in quality (which will definitely be explored in a later blog), especially considering we have one of the world’s best and most unknown climbs leaving right from town.

Despite all that, while I worked at one of the local shops I launched the Tuesday night ride in order to get more of a community and a fun group. While Mountain Biking remains and will stay king in this town (and part of the world), we were able to have a consistent, fun and at times very fast group. Going forward, hopefully a B group can start to form in order to avoid the classic Revelstoke pitfall of creating uninclusive spaces that are dedicated to the fastest, best or most willing to pin it at all times.

The Revelstoke Steamer, a dormant hill climb race that was a mainstay of the cycling community prior to me moving is another event that we were able to, thanks in partnership to the organizers of the Revy 50 MTB race, Race Revelstoke, put back on last year as a Strava challenge. More details to come but we are definitely on track to have that come back this year (More details to be announced in due time)

Racing Coverage

For what its worth, I'm a bit obsessed with cycling in general. Asking anyone around my life such as friends, family and especially my partner Jess, I can talk and have opinions for days on all kinds of topics. As far as World Tour, Lifetime Grand Prix and cycling industry posts and coverage, they will definitely exist in some form on this blog, but the structure of that is yet to be determined. It may be mindless thoughts, may be specific race coverage or observations as 10 year veteran of the Canadian cycling industry. While I don't expect this to be the main focus, it will definitely take some shape and have a presence here.

More to come in the future and I'm excited to get going. Eat Trash Ride Fast, 2025 currently loading,
